I spent 10 days incognito as “Branko Ristovski,” a driver for our own family company.
With a disguise of a cap, glasses, and a mask, and only two colleagues knowing about my mission, I set out to experience life behind the wheel.
From sweating in 34°C while strapping goods to navigating UK roads on the left side, every moment was a new challenge.
At Tesco, a fire drill saw me evacuating with 1,000 others, and later, I panicked when my truck's lights and locks started acting up—
only to realize I’d accidentally pressed the wrong buttons on the remote. I crossed the channel via ferry and the Eurotunnel,
spotted iconic racetracks like Silverstone and Nürburgring, and gained a deep appreciation for the skill and resilience of drivers.
By the end of the journey, I felt more comfortable driving a 16.5-meter truck, despite a few bumps along the way. The adventure ended with a big truck cleaning and a grand reveal at our company BBQ in Poland. Huge respect to all drivers—your work is nothing short of heroic!
RadioActive is the holiday radio broadcast that has become a cherished tradition at Boekestijn Transport.
For three days, it brings together all our employees – drivers and office staff alike – from all our locations
to celebrate the end of the year with fun, connection, and collaboration. Each edition involves around 30 people,
including the technical team, organizers, and hosts. The broadcasts are conducted in multiple languages to ensure
everyone can participate and feel included in this special event. The program features interviews with drivers and
employees from various departments, sharing their stories and experiences, Christmas carols to set the festive mood,
and contests open to everyone – no matter their role or location. A highlight of the event is the two-hour segment
hosted by Peter and Sjef Boekestijn, filled with humor, memories, and holiday energy.
Additionally, participants can look forward to exciting prizes each year, ranging from company merchandise to bigger
surprises like trips or cash rewards. RadioActive is more than just a broadcast – it’s a way to bring everyone closer together, no matter the distance, to end the year on a high note and remind ourselves that we’re one team, even when spread across Europe.
Over the years, we’ve tackled many unique projects for PepsiCo, but one of the most memorable
was when they were supplying their products for the Olympic Games.
At the time, PepsiCo’s concentrate was being shipped via sea freight.
However, due to a ban on dangerous goods entering the port, their product was stuck.
That’s when they turned to us, asking if we could solve this logistical challenge.
The task was immense: transporting 120 trailer loads over three months.
Without hesitation, I assured them that “there isn’t a border Boekestijn Transport can’t cross!”
While I confidently said it, I’ll admit I wasn’t entirely sure how we’d manage it at the time.
But thanks to the incredible teamwork of our colleagues in Ireland, Holland, and Poland, we made it happen.
We delivered every order on time, safely and securely, helping PepsiCo maintain their critical role as a major Olympic sponsor.
This project highlighted one of our key strengths: attention to detail and unwavering commitment from our teams across multiple locations. It’s partnerships and challenges like this that showcase what Boekestijn Transport is truly capable of.
At Boekestijn Transport, we believe in nurturing personal and professional growth. It's not just a philosophy; it’s one of our core values:
“We grow talents, and talents grow us.” This commitment to continuous development has been deeply rooted in our company culture from the very beginning, inspired by the remarkable example of Piet Boekestijn, the father of our founders.
At the age of 63, Piet achieved something extraordinary—he graduated in accountancy.
His determination and dedication to lifelong learning set a powerful example for all of us, proving that it’s never too late to grow,
learn, and achieve new goals. In honor of Piet’s legacy, we established the Piet Boekestijn Award, a recognition given to colleagues
who excel in their personal or professional development. This award celebrates those who embody the spirit of growth and inspire others to pursue their own journeys of self-improvement. By promoting continuous learning and honoring those who lead by example, we ensure that Piet’s legacy lives on, fueling the success and growth of Boekestijn Transport for generations to come.
